Who can apply?

Ormond College accepts applications from students who are currently enrolled, or who intend to enrol, at the University of Melbourne and its subsidiaries, which include the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), Melbourne Business School (MBS) and the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM).

The College accepts both undergraduate and graduate students for residence, as well as a smaller number of Study Abroad and Exchange students. There is also a non-resident program. The application process for each of these groups is slightly different.

Financial assistance is available to students applying for residence, by separate application.

What selection criteria does Ormond use?

Irrespective of which cohort students seek selection in, the Selection Committee looks for individuals who are committed to their University study, and who will contribute in diverse ways to the Ormond experience. Factors considered in selection include personal interview, academic results, co-curricular interests, leadership potential and ability, contribution to the general community, family association, references, and membership of groups historically under-represented at Ormond. The College actively seeks a diverse community of residents from many backgrounds, locations and cultures.

Can I apply to more than one college?

You may select only one University of Melbourne college or hall as your first preference, so it’s important to choose a college that’s right for you!

Before applying for a place, you should take the time to research your options and visit the colleges. The best time to do so is on the University's Open Day, which is held in August each year. If you are unable to visit Ormond College personally on Open Day, the Deans’ Office is happy to arrange group and personal visits. College tours and interviews are only available on weekdays.

We welcome your interest in seeking more information about the College. Please contact the Deans’ Office Manager on T: 61 3 9344 1107 or by email.
