Scholarship and Financial Assistance Applications

Scholarships

At Ormond we are committed to enabling students to achieve excellence in their studies and co-curricular interests. A wide range of scholarships, largely funded through the generosity of alumni, is available to students who demonstrate strong academic attainment. A number also have financial need as a criterion.

Scholarships are offered across many study areas. Some have particular focus, e.g. students with leadership potential, a record of community service or from a particular region or school.

Scholarships, prizes and bursaries to a total value of over $400,000 are available for new and returning students. At Ormond we are committed to ensuring that, as far as possible, financial need is not an obstacle to membership of the College. We offer a wide range of financial support and many of our students are able to benefit from this range of support during their years at Ormond. Please download an information sheet.

Rural Scholarships

To help maintain Ormond's strong tradition of drawing students from Victorian regional and rural schools, the College offers a number of rural scholarships. Five scholarships worth up to $5,000 per annum are available. There is no need to make a separate application for a rural scholarship - eligibility will be considered as part of the Ormond application process.

Scholarships for Students of Indigenous Background

The College is strongly committed to supporting students of Indigenous background who wish to reside in Ormond whilst studying at the University of Melbourne. Several scholarships are available. The program aims to:

  • provide Indigenous students with access to educational opportunities at Ormond and the University
  • develop an enhanced understanding of, and respect for Indigenous culture, history and current issues within the College

In the first instance, students of Indigenous background should contact either:

Ms Jenny Holmes, Dean of Studies, on T: 61 3 9344 1268 or by email.
or
Miss Michelle Earthy, Project Officer at the Centre for Indigenous Education, the University of Melbourne on T: 61 3 8344 5330 or by email.

Financial Assistance (Bursaries)

Ormond’s endowment funds, thanks to former students and other benefactors, enable us to offer generous assistance to students who, for reasons of financial need, would not otherwise be able to enter or remain in College. So, if you’d like to come to Ormond but think you can’t afford the fees, it's important to discuss your options with the Dean of Students. Please contact the Deans' Office on T: 61 3 9344 1107 or by email.

Should you apply to Ormond College and nominate a need for financial assistance on your application form, the Deans’ Office will arrange for a financial application form to be forwarded to you. The application is confidential and is treated as a private matter between the individual student, the Master and the Dean of Students.
