Café & Common Rooms

Redeveloped in 2010, The Café & Common Rooms are the new hub of our community and the ideal place to relax or study with friends.

The Café and Common Rooms were designed by Nest Architects, who helped us to completely reconfigure these spaces for the needs of students today. The result is three spaces that strike the perfect balance between relaxing and recharging, study and play. You can find groups of students in the café’s booths throughout the day, having meetings, engaged in conversation, or reading the selection of magazines.

In addition to food available in the Hall, students can also obtain core meals from the Café. The Café serves coffee and light snacks during the day as well as a semester changing Ala cart menu till 7 pm daily. In the evening, the Café transforms into a relaxed bar, offering wine by the glass and a number of beers on tap. The Café’s stage gets regular use during open mic nights and the Battle of the Bands. The Café is run by the Students’ Club, for the students, creating substantial employment and leadership opportunities.

The lounge, next to the Café, is a multi-purpose space, with comfortable lounges and ottomans that double as game-boards. In the adjoining room, a full-sized billiards table is the home of the annual Ormond billiards championships.

The Café and Common Rooms are very popular with students for studying, with large tables that are perfect for group work, and smaller booths for individual study. Wireless access to the network and the internet is available in the Common Room spaces.
