We all make decisions, and some of those decisions have a huge impact on our lives. Choosing to apply to Ormond College was a milestone decision that has taken my education to the next level.
I grew up in Ouyen, a small rural town in North-Western Victoria. I had 19 people in my class, so it was a shock to go to the number one university in Australia with 60,000 other students. It took me out of my comfort zone, and I could not be more grateful for the experience.
Ormond is a diverse and inclusive community of over 500 students from across the state, country and world. The beauty of a large college is its’ ability to provide an array of opportunities and support.
The cost of college made me hesitant to apply, but one third of Ormondians are on financial assistance and the experience is worth the expense. The staff have been incredibly supportive of my transition to the city and have been with me every step of the way. Food, internet, tutors, academic advice, events and parties are all part of the package!
From incredible drama programs, to a thriving sporting culture, to the ability to hone your writing skills in student magazines – we have it all. Ormond gave me a close-knit community that has also given me unimaginable opportunities. We’re a student-run community, which means that those opportunities come with enormous potential for learning and personal growth.
At college you make lifelong friends and can live in the centre of Melbourne while studying at an awesome university. Ormond is unique in that it is the largest in Melbourne, but it also explicitly prepares its students to make a disproportionate difference to the world once we graduate.
There is nowhere easier or more rewarding to live, if you’re serious about getting the most out of your university education.
