Café & JCR

The renovation of the Junior Common Room into a Café was completed in time for Open Day, 15 August, 2010. The Café is providing a wonderful new informal meeting place for undergraduates, graduates and non-resident students as well as tutors, alumni, staff, parents and visitors. It is open for extended hours and provides a range of healthy food and plenty of great coffee all day, as well as a light meal option on evenings when Formal Hall is not taking place.

Designed by Nest Architects, the project was approved by Heritage Victoria with no changes to the design. It includes new external doors opening out on to an outside seating area (soon to be constructed) that will be part of a new entrance at the back of the College to better connect Ormond with the University.

The Café features large communal seating areas, with tables made from timber recycled from the old seats in Lecture Theatre A. Designed in consultation with residents, the Café is operated by the College caterers, Alliance. Do drop in for a coffee the next time you visit the College!
